Who here has a base and what is it? I have a Uniden that I'm thinking that I might set up as a base.

I wish I could have a base.Unfortunately I live in town and in very colse proximity to my neighbors.I have problems with bleeding the neighbors electronics. The Boro in which I live got involved about 5 years ago and shut me down. They drudged up an old ordinance that says you must have a permit for any external antennas.Of course since I was already having problems there was no use in applying for said permit as it would have just been a waste of time and money,it would have of course been denied. When I did have a base I had a Cobra 2000 with 2 matching speakers and extra channels hidden in the sp-1/sp-2 switch. One of the nicest radios I have ever had the priveledge to operate.Shawn

I used to have a Ranger 696SSB with a little help behind it, hooked up to an Imax2000 along with a whole army of Turner +3B's and D104's. Took it all down, and sold it for now.

I have a base here at the home 20. I am using a 4 amp 15v power supply and I switch out between my two cobra 29's with an ST-65 mic. I run that into an Interceptor 200 tube box and out an A-99 at about 25-30' to the feed point.

Damn, that's a nice deal. I remember those Eagle 2000's. I think the last one that I saw belonged to Eagle himself.

Once my tuber is fixed, I will be running my trc-431 navajo base station. I run it now, but noone hears me except local. My tuber does somewhere around 1500 or so peak, maybe a little more. 2300 watts input power. Maco v-5k at 40 feet or so. Fed with low loss mini 8. And no it will not melt.

Really now, thats funny, because I've run it for many months and no problem. The stuff I have is rated at 800 constant. What my box does is well under 800 constant. I put over 1kw into it (CW tone) into a dummy load for quite a long time, untill the dummy load got hotter than hell, and the coax stayed cool.

I mean not to be smart, but why the hell would I run that coax when i can get heavier stuff for the same price if it were a compromise, this is much easier to work with in my situation here, I did my research and testing, don't worry. What you have to understand is the ratings on these things are for constant power in a commercial aplication. When you're running AM and your doing 1500 peak for a couple minutes at a time, and your actual rms is only around 5 or 600, you've got nothing to worry about.

That's funny, I run mini 8 on my base and I have neighbors less than 30' from my antenna and I don't bother anyone. Rolling Eyes
