I just got all my stuff in order for the most part, it's time to do a little tuning on a $13 special, which btw thanks shawn. if I can't get what I want outta this radio you want it back? lol I'm not much for the ST 25s, need more of a straight LTD 25 for bashful to use in the car.
Oh heck yeah I would take it back.I bought it cause I couldnt pass it up at that price.I will keep my eyes out for a straight 25 classic for you at the flea markets. You should ask Lowkey too,he may have one and if he doesnt he may know someone who has one to part with.Lowkey has his finger on the pulse of all the radio/amp/antenna deals that go on in our area.Shawn

Yo Rooster just so you know the ST radio's are the same exact thing as a straight LTD model, as long as you don't push the ST button. As far as the variable power goes, just use the RF gain pot thats already in the radio. I can explain it to you if you want.

I'm good as far as the explanation goes, I've got the idea and have done it before. the thing is this is a NW WX ST 25, there is no RF pot on it at all. that's why I'm going nuts figuring out a way for a variable. 431 suggested last night take out the weather, or use the squelch, and I've thought about both, for my purposes it'd be easier to just get the LTD classic and roll with that. I don't like taking functions away from a radio that I may use, and being as Bashful would be using this radio, she would use the squelch, and most likely weather. it's a stout radio for what it is, just not exactly what I want.

a cobra or uniden has more audio than any export out there, you may need an amp to get the power, but your power is going where it needs to go to get the job done.

For someone who has been in the hobby for a long time you should know that export radio's create a lot of harmonics and do not place the watts on the correct frequency like a cobra/uniden/midland ect. It's all about the bird watts not the garbage harmonic watts you see on a PEP meter.

that extra audio and power is also going off frequency, yes I run a 10 meter radio too, I like it, but I also know where whippit is coming from. barefoot 10m radios may do the deal, with power behind it, very unlikely it would smoke a cobra or uniden.

and I mean that being both setups are the same minus the radios.
