Of the galaxy 2547 non mosfet?
They are very pricey up here so on another forum buddy was selling one for 290 shipped to me. I had to go for it. Plans - once I get it, send to Sparky's for econd final and speech compressor, tune align..his majic. Then use a 2018 echo mic on it for the homestead. That way Linda can use it to call me without using cell phones, or I can chew the rag with some other guys from work. I plan to use 120V but have it wired for 12 and have the power come off of my wind mill / solar panels.

I think they are extremely nice...but also extremely expensive radios.Prices around here on them are sky high too.Im not sure what makes them worth that much money.I only got mine because it was dirt cheap,$75.00 still in the original box and all minty and stuff. There are a lot of cool mods that can be done to them too.Viagra board,10kc,dual finals[at least in the mosfet version]and there are more.Thing is if you want to do all the mods and you look at what the radio is going to cost you and the total for the mods and shipping or driving back and forth to and from a shop.....you could easily just go out and buy a brand new 2517 or 2980 and have those bells and whistles already built in.Anyway the 2547 will definately need some peekin and tweekin...they are absolute dogs rite out of the box.Mine keyed 3 and swung to not even quite 4 watts when I got itwith very low modulation.I have found this to be true of the Galaxy mobile"CB"radios. My 959 and I think it was a 979 were both the same way out of the box,low watts and modulation.Shawn

I hear you there. I think that Galaxy does that as they know that people and almost all shops tune them up before use. I am sticking to my plan and will be sending it to Sparky's for a once over and tune with a speech compressor. There is a slot for the second final so depending on the $$ might go with that.

Oh yeah, dont mistake...Im not trying to discourage. It is an awesome radio for sure especially when you can get a nice one for a descent price.I got many compliments on mine especially on ssb. That is where this radio really shines in my opinion.Nice clean, smooth audio for sure. And hey while its at Sparkys see how much for a viagra board utilizing the useless 9/norm./19 3 position knob.I dont use them anymore but R&R charges 30 for the board amd 30 for install.$60.00 aint too bad to get 80 more channels.Me .....Well I think I have finally settled down in the radio buying department Razz I am actually just trying to sell off the stuff I have that doesnt get used, mainly the vintage stuff oh and that Dirty little FATGIRL.Ever since I got my Galaxy 88 believe it or not Im satisfied...fully satisfied.Yes I know, amazing isnt it? Heck the only reason I bought the Northstar 880 was cause ir was dirt cheap and it was an axact replica of the 88.The only gear I foresee myself buying for a long time would be if I come across a super deal on a Browning base set,a plug in the wall tuber like a Varmint linear for the base[gave up on the whole DX1200 idea its just too muchmoney and then more money to give it proper power] and if I go back to driving I will most likely pick up a Connex,3300 or 4600T...all depends on funds at the time.Shawn

Well, I always think it through, but I'll run the #'s past you.
New from Canada - $430 plus tax (13 %) = 485.90, then tune up $75 + tax = 85, then shipping or gas $40 for a total of $610.65
Buying used from US delivered to me for 290(US) (318 cdn) then to Sparky's say $120 round trip (when I have some extra $$$). All this $$ has not been put on credit card, spare $$ laying around at the time.
What I have found is that Sparky's is I think the best place to buy from, some items (for me) its better to buy used and have him tune it.
