I put up a temporary antenna (dipole) for my scanner on Saturday...I then ordered an actual scanner antenna yesterday (yep, can't make up my mind).

I set a base up about 2 months ago...President Washington (the later version) and homemade horizontal dipole...not high enough to do much yet, but when we move in about a year, I'll put something up more substantial. I have been able to skip to Florida though...barefoot.

I'm getting something setup finally...can't wait to move.

What kinda house are you in rite now? 2/3 story? If so take that dipole and string it up in an inverted v design off of the chimney.Works fantastic for local and skip and no-one will ever even notice it especially up that high.Shawn

The house we have now isn't antenna-friendly, got to live with what I got. I fully intend to put up either a tower or a pole of some sort at the next place...I'm actually thinking a piece of 6-inch pipe with a piece of 5-inch (or so) telescoped to about 30 feet would be plenty sturdy (basically a steel telephone pole)...weld on steps for easy access...done.

The dipole works well...shot skip to Florida using nothing more than the dipole and an old ratshack handheld (on batteries no less). Its constructed of two opposing 102" whips on a 10-foot piece of 3/4" pipe off my shed. Got a 100 feet of new RG-8 in trade from the local shop. Seems to work well...most of the people I talk with around here are around 10 miles out...and it seems to do the job (some better than others, probably since the thing is polarized).

I'm actually considering selling the Washington, and just using my Grant...but I got to see what DTB can do for the Grant first (seems low on power - weak final?).

I just built a shelf for my "shack", nothing fancy...just some pine boards screwed together. Its outside getting some polyurethane slathered on it right now. I'll take a picture when I get it finished.

When's the next get together?

Me personally I wouldnt sell the Washington, especially if its in real nice shape.Dude that radio is a classic,it was destined to be a classic the day the first one rolled off the assembly line. Some radios are just like that, the Cobra 2000 is another prime example. But hey thats just my opinion.Rhe next get together??? 431 was talking about throwing it this year.I have a really bad taste in my mouth rite now from 21,way too much hate and discontent between way too many people.Shawn
