So who wants to explain to me in laymans terms why some mic /radio combinations sound great and others sound like doodie?I run an rk56 on my Cobra 29 and my General Lee anda d104 on my RCI 6900.I have tried the d104 on the other 2 radios and it sounds like crap, have also tried the rk56 and an Astatic 636 on the 6900 and they sounded like crap.So what gives, why do some radios and mics just mesh and some dont?Maybe well never know Shawn

I dont know to be honest. It has to be a combination of the microphone element that they use in the microphones in conjunction with the audio chips that are used in the radios. Other than that, beats me....

I would almost say the sensitivity of different components. I had a 636 on my cobra 29 and had to have the mike gain cranked wide open, put it on my DX-979 and had to turn way back. But of course the 979 has the Top Gun Modulator. binrat

The main reason has to do with how the radio was tuned. For instance if a radio was set for 100% modulation with a noise canceling mic, then using a power mic or high sensitivty mic will make it sound blown out unless you really turn the mic gain back. Also vice versa using a stock style mic to due the tune will enable you to run a power mic and sound ok, but not be able to use a NC mic because it will cancel to much noise. The second thing is has to do with with the audio section of the specific radio, it is all a trial and error game. The best thing to do is set the modulation with the mic you want to use with the radio. Also if you radio has to much swing it will make the audio quality suffer.
