PostSubject: Sky Blue.......   Mon Oct 19, 2009 3:33 pm

Will the sky be the limit? I dunno but at least its a start.I have officially moved into my new digz...the sky blue Baby Blazer.Rite now its my Mud Duck Motor Truck but if funding ever becomes available I got some major plans. For now its just my barefoot black chrome Cobra 29 and a 4 foot Astatic Black Magic fiberglass stick.Works pretty darned good too..not to pat myself on the back or anything but...I have had very encouraging reports on its signal and loud clean audio already.I tried the single mag mount approach with this antenna and it had a few drawbasks
1.It would come loose at hi-way speeds...well at 75mph anyway hahaha
2.It just didnt seem to recieve or transmit as well as I was anticipating it to even though it had a good swr match.
So I bit the bullet, and my wife will bite my head off when she finds out but...I drilled the inside of the front fender and utilized a very thin but very strong universal mount by Firestik that has been lying around here seemingly since the beginning of time. Now go figure but...my swrs went up a little, still well within good parameters but I seem to be transmitting and receiving much better.
The swr I attribute to being fender mounted and the antenna sees more metal.
The increased transmit and recieve I attribute to having a solid metal body ground.
I can most likely even improve upon this and acheive better swrs by running an extra ground to the frame. That will be a project for another day.Rite now I have been busy the better part of the day trying to clean the poor truck up.It went unused for about 6 months and was sitting under some trees as well as bamboo.....bet Binrat doesnt even know what that looks like hahahaha.
Future plans are an 8 pill...either a splatter box driven by a 2 pill or a Texas star driven by either a modV or something like a Galaxy 93t
At least now I have a vehicle capable of carrying the batteries to feed the firepower. Now I just need a descent job to come thru and Im on my way Very Happy Shawn

Ladies and Gentlmen I give you OLD BLUE...Back from the dead.Saved from a life of sitting under the trees and rotting away.Shes old, shes moody and she drinks gas like an alchaholic at a free open bar but damn she sure does clean up nice cheers Holy H3ll I kid you not I spent the entire afternoon yesterday scrubbing the tree and bamboo sap off her.She was more greenish brown than blue anymore. Then I spent the night in the garage with the buffing wheel, armoral, windex, pine sol and about every other cleaning agent known to man but...WHEW shes done Cool Couple little nagging problems to be addressed like the filler neck on gas tank needs replaced and a couple electrical shorts in things like doors and such must be traced and fixed but I"ll get her there. So let me and this mudduck motor truck get it on up outta the middle of the road,Im goin on now,Shawn

Everytime I see that I think of an old lady with white hair that is turning blue.
On a different note - that thing has some potential. If it was mine I would start with a K&N intake kit, SS exhaust, New alt and dual batteries. A real good sound system, a nice big Galaxy pushing an AB1 / B amp into something good like a K40 antenna.

Yeam man, like I said previously at least now I have something that can carry the juice and firepower.Youd be surprised man it dont look it but these little blazers are tough and rock solid.Built on a true frame,no bull$hit unibody construction. This is a truck tried and true,a small truck but none the less a truck.I may look into the whole dual up front battery thing, not sure...more than likely just add a second alternator and run it dedicated to a bank of batteries in the cargo area.Got some work to do on her this weekend, oil change, air filter and install a set of driving lights, the lights are to stealthily cover up 2 tears my oldest put in the plastic air dam facia in the front when she plowed into the back of a Lexus.Ripped the liscense plate holder off the front therefore leaving a couple nice rips but the lights should cover it up quite nicely.Oh and as far as mods I was thinking more along the lines of 3 inch body,6 inch suspension lifts and rolling 35 inch BFG's under it hahaha yeah pipe dream I know but it would look cool lol!

Im kinda surprised, but then again not.The wife and oldest were sharing this truck for some time and between them they were only averaging 12 and 14 as far as the gas mileage goes.Well I have filled it twice so far and guess what??? Im getting low 16"s out of it and I dont do any hi-way driving at all.Hmmmm could it be my wifes penchant for racing to the next light or stop sign? Funny thing is she doesnt speed, she just gets up to speed like shes in a drag race then evens off.Me I speed everywhere but take my time rolling up to speed, once I get rolling though look out affraid Very Happy Never got around to the oil change and air filter but Im thinkin[hoping] that in combination with a bottle of the good fuel system cleaner I might be able to squeaze 18 out of her.Ya think its possible? Seriously Shawn

I dunno ss exhaust sounds awfully expensive.Whats the advantage besides the fact that it shouldnt have to be replaced again during the useable life of the vehicle? I will look into the K&N if its not too pricey I will get that as opposed to just a regular replacement.Hahaha rich, yeah rite...It put me in the poor house just getting this thing thru inspection. Not to mention the wifey needs a new windshield in the Malibu now too. That will probly be 3 bills or more and the Blazer just cost me 8,oh and I sunk almost a grand into the Grand am rite before I gave it to the oldest affraid God damned cars have got me strapped for cash man.But hey at least they are all mine, paid cash in full with no payments to make every month. They may not be the newest and best but they are all mine lock stock and barrell.Hey do you buy into the whole full or partial synthetic oil thing? Think its worth the sizeable price difference ie will it improve gas mileage therefore paying for itself in the long run? Will it really extend the life of the motor? Never used it yet and kinda curious.Shawn
